The Villages Campus Newsletter – Issue 2

Hey, everyone! You are receiving Issue 2 of our Campus Newsletter. The goal to accomplish with these newsletters is one simple word: communication! With our campus having so many seasonal members, vacationing and just the chaos of life, I know communication via our Welcome Guides and what’s announced from the stage simply isn’t enough. My prayer is that we, as a church family, stay updated, aligned and laser-focused as we celebrate the many blessings from God and where we are headed as a campus.

Issue 1 of our Campus Newsletter focused on all our blessings and accomplishments in the past year. This issue’s focus is covering most of what’s coming in the next few months on our campus. If you missed Issue 1, check it out here:

If you would like more information about our Leadership Pipeline, email me at jacob@thesprings.net or contact my assistant, Trudy Nelson, at trudy@thesprings.net so we can set up a time to meet for coffee. I would love to offer opportunities to be a part of our campus leadership!

We have a lot of great stuff to cover, so, let’s get started!

What is Happening in the Next Few Months?

Raise the BAR

Be the Church, Activate the Campus and Raise up Leaders is our focus through the year 2020. When we rolled out Raise the BAR, we said we would jump as high as we could with what we’re blessed with through how you give. We had talked about purchasing a new building and/or land to build on, but that turned out to not be feasible for a number of reasons.

The number one reason is time: we simply did not and do not have the luxury of time to buy and build to accommodate the growth we’ve experienced (a wonderful problem to have). We needed a quick fix, which has resulted in the multiphase renovations we’re currently undergoing. The second reason is it is not the most fiscally responsible decision taking into account what we raised. The GREAT news is that we were able to turn the room, adding 65 more seats, update audio/video systems and we are in the process of expanding our auditorium to add another 85-100 seats!

We currently have all the contractors lined up, the architect’s drawings done and the volunteers (you!) ready and willing to jump in and get this job done. Unfortunately, we’re working the painstakingly slow process of pulling permits through Lady Lake, and addressing some issues we need to resolve to do this renovation both legally (darn!) and with excellence. God’s timing is perfect, and I know He will make this work for the good of our campus and community. The good news is right when we get the green light from Lady Lake, we can execute the renovation in approximately one month. I will continue to update you all on this process via email, separate from this newsletter, as soon as we get the approval from Lady Lake.

"Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end."

— Ecclesiastes 3:11

 Springsville House Renovations

We want to be a church that serves families with excellence, and God has trusted us with the people and resources to do that!

We have converted the Springsville house garage to an air-conditioned space for our growing Springsville ministry. We will also be adding a door in the infant room, connecting it to the current dining room/office area of the house. This will create another room and space available for our infants and toddlers. We want to be a place where young families can come, drop kids off in a comfortable environment, allowing both the parents and kids learn about the good news of Jesus Christ. These renovations support our core values that teaching is for life change and people matter to God, especially as we make the most of what God has given us, reaching the next generation.

"Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him."

— Psalms 127: 3

Small Groups Launch

A life worth living is built around relationships.

Our Small Groups were originally scheduled to launch the week of September 11, but then hurricane Irma happened, the most inconvenient and selfish storm we’ve seen. We are now launching our small groups this Tuesday, September 19th.

Iron Men kicked off this past Tuesday, September 19, with Brat(wurst) Fest. Join us next Tuesday, either at 6:30am or 7pm, as we dive in to our study on the book of Titus. We, as men, will be challenged and encouraged to display the gospel in our lives by doing good. We do good works not to earn God’s favor but as a result of God’s favor. This group study is perfect for brand new and seasoned Christ-followers, and especially for those with questions about following Christ. I challenge you, as men, to not come alone: bring a friend or coworker as we see how to live out our lives to the fullest in Christ.

We have 12 new Small Group Leaders and over 100 people signed up to join a small group over the past month! That means you guys have been pressing the importance of groups and for that, I can’t thank you enough. We will continue to grow larger and smaller at the same time through our weekends and small groups. We will be growing together as one body in Christ through our small groups, as every group chooses one of five small group studies from Right Now Media. This laser focus will create a buzz and a common ground of conversation as over 100 people grow together during the week, then join as a church on Sundays.

The final small group option is pioneering something The Springs has never done, and we get to be the first to do it at The Villages campus in message-based small groups. This will elevate the already amazing YouVersion Bible app to go deeper in small groups what teach on during the weekend. Included in the scriptures, notes and slides we normally have in the Bible app, we will now have an additional 6-10 Small Group questions at the bottom of the notes on the app. Small Group Leaders will have the option to use the provided questions to go deeper with their Small Group with the message-based discussion questions. God is always at work, it’s up to you to place yourself there. God is working in a big way in our Small Groups, so don’t miss this season of groups. Sign up on your Connect Card, email our Small Group Coordinator Debbie Loveless (debbiea1237@gmail.com) to join a group or choose a group from those available in the lobby.

"Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now"

— Hebrews 10: 24-25

Hurricane Irma

Thousands were affected by the devastating storm of hurricane Irma. The pain, chaos and destruction gives the church the opportunity to do what it should do best: serve God by serving others. The Villages Irma Relief Team went out and served last Wednesday to sweat, serve and bleed (those thorns will get ya) for our community. The campus response this past weekend signing up to serve on a Relief Team was overwhelmingly encouraging as we had 50 people volunteer their time and talents!

I’m inviting everyone to serve The Villages and surrounding communities through debris cleanup for those who have yet to have the opportunity or ability to do so.

My goal is to mobilize an army of Christ-followers to serve and alleviate the chaos and destruction hurricane Irma left behind. Meet at The Villages campus this Thursday, September 21, at 9:30 am to join our relief team or if you signed up this past weekend!

What to bring
- Gloves
- Rake (if you have one)
- Chainsaw (if you have one)

If you can bring a chainsaw, truck or trailer this Thursday, please email me at jacob@thesprings.net! This will help me organize the teams for us to be the most effective as we serve together.

I have never been more excited to see how God will work in the next season at our campus through Small Groups, Springsville kids, campus renovations and serving our neighbors around The Villages. I want to challenge you this week to invite someone this week to whichever service you attend. Church studies show that 82% of people would come to church if only someone would invite them. God will provide you the opportunities and it's up to us to act! Let's continue to make The Villages a place that's hard to go to hell from!

In Christ,

Jacob
